Weekly Review - Written By The Plovers
Our next project is to learn about Native Americans who lived on the Oregon and Washington coast. We started by making a mural for the background to our village, and later we will add houses and totem poles. We learned how to paint watercolor trees for our mural. We made our trees really detailed by dabbing our brushes and using different shades. We started with yellow paint and then layered on other colors, like green and blue, to make the trees look realistic. Some people also used watercolor pencils to add different shades, like purple or brown. We also started reading a book together called If You Lived With The Indians Of The Northwest Coast. Here are some of the questions we would like learn more about:
- Why did they make statues and totem poles? What does totem mean?
- How did they make their houses? Did they have metal tools, like axes?
- Why are they called Native Americans?
- Were the chiefs mean?
