- In the “Add a coach” field, enter our class code: XJDZM8
- If your family would prefer to practice math skills in a different way (practice books, worksheets, flash cards, math games or other online resources), please send in your student's work OR send me an email before Thursday morning letting me know how they completed their 30 minutes of weekly math practice.
Upcoming Out and Abouts
This Wednesday, students will rehearse and preform legends about their Native American clan. We will also help with stewardship of the Sunflower Garden and Backyard Garden.
Next week, we will have an in-class presentation from the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Students will learn how Native Americans used science and engineering to create tools, homes, clothing, and more – passing this knowledge down through generations. They will also have a chance to explore artifacts designed by Oregon’s first engineers and try out their own engineering skills!
Volunteer Opportunities
1. Mystery Readers - I have spots available every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 for mystery readers, but I can add more if those times do not work with your schedule. Please email me if you need to schedule an alternative time.
2. Library Chaperones - Chaperones needed for our next library visit (10/9).
Weekly Review
Last week, we went to Roger's Park for Native American Exploration Day. Students completed challenges and activities with their clan groups at three rotating stations. At one stations, students learn traditional games. At the second station, students created and used natural dyes to begin a painting. At a third station, students jumped into storytelling by retelling and acting out a NW Native legend about their clan animal. Puffins and Plovers had a great day out, building cooperation and camaraderie within their clan families.
We had another Mystery Readers last week! Mystery Readers send in 5 clues about themselves and I reveal the clues to the class throughout the day. Students make guesses about the identity of the mystery reader and, as a result, they get to learn about what their families have in common. At the end of the day, the Mystery Reader appears in the Plover Nest and reads a book to the class! So far, we've heard Yertle The Turtle, read by Vanessa Gray, My New Friend Is So Fun, read by Anna Wilson, and The Book Of Mistakes read by Karen Torry. THANK YOU Mystery Readers! If you would like to share a book with the Plovers, you can sign up to be a Mystery Reader on our SignUp page.
