Weekly Review
Because the Plovers have been spending so much time in the computer lab quietly working on SBAC testing, we've been trying to find extra time throughout the day for stretching, dancing and meditating. Every morning, two students lead the class through energizing stretches and exercises before we start morning meeting. We have also used Yoga In The Classroom YouTube channel to learn yoga poses, like mountain, tree, downward dog and child pose. Calm.com offers free guided meditation and peaceful backgrounds that the Plovers enjoy. And finally, we've been experimenting with movements for a thunderstorm dance and trying to find interesting ways to represent the collision of cold and warm air. This Vivaldi piece provides the perfect soundtrack for their stormy choreography!
Last week, the Plovers assembled earthquake kits for four classrooms! So far, each kit contains a crank flashlight/radio, emergency blankets, glow sticks, first aid supplies, a whistle, hand wipes, tarps, ropes, and toilet paper! The essays that the Plovers wrote inspired a lot of generosity from local businesses and organizations. So far, we have received gift cards and cash donations from Home Depot, Bi-Mart and the Lions Club. The firefighters association also donated supplies for the emergency kits!
