Friendship Celebration (Valentines Day)
The Plovers will show appreciation for our classroom community and friendships with a Friendship Celebration at the end of the day on February 14th. If your Plover would like to bring in cards for their classmates, they MUST bring one for every student. Students can make cards or buy them. Please be modest with candy contributions; Plovers will not be allowed to eat treats at school.

Volunteer Opportunities
1. Library Chaperones - Chaperones needed for our next library visit 2/12
Additional snack donations - I like to keep some extra snacks in the classroom for students who forget their lunch or snack, and my stash is getting low! Breakfast bars, fruit leathers or fruit snacks, crackers, goldfish or pretzels are all great options. These donations can be brought in any time.
Spelling Words
Below are the current words and patterns that students are working on during spelling. Level 2 students do not have spelling homework, but you may choose to review these words in a fun way with your Plover!
Some at home practice ideas:
- Take turns making up silly sentences that have at least two spelling words in them
- Write two spelling words on a piece of paper. Cut the letters apart and mix them up. Then, use the letters to spell each word correctly.

Weekly Review
Last week, we attended the Oregon Symphony's Young People's Concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The orchestra played music from North and South America, highlighting how each composer used music to tell a story about their culture and homeland. Before attending the performance, we participated in two online workshops called Introduction to Classical Music and Instruments of the World. Students learned a bit about the history of classical music - from early church music to famous movie scores. We saw videos about the many ways classical music is a part of our everyday lives, including some surprising examples of classical music in popular commercials and TV shows! And finally, we were able to see and hear some of the main instrument families in classical music - strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. We were so lucky when we got to the performance and were able to sit in the front row to see these instruments up close!
