Weekly Review
We are keeping busy with our unit about the history of the people of the Pacific Northwest coast. The students are working on creating their characters, getting to know their clan (family), and deciding on their role in the community. They have also created clan crests and written short biographies about their characters. This week, we will build long houses, canoes and totem poles to add to our village mural. Then, we will begin role playing to learn about the lives of Native Americans and important events in Oregon's history. Throughout this unit, students will be journaling from the perspective of their character, incorporating facts and evidence from books and newspapers into their writing.
We also had our first pay day last week! Students completed a weekly reflection about their classroom job responsibilities. Then, they received their first paycheck from the payroll department! Students must fill out a deposit slip to deposit their paycheck into the class bank, and they keep track of their earnings in a bank log. Bonus pay was given to students who kept clean book cubbies or helped take care of the food waste from school lunches. Next week, the Plover store will be open and students can withdraw money from their bank accounts to buy items like Show-And-Tell or Rocking Chair For The Day, But they also need to save up money for their first rent payment on November 1st!
