Words Words Words!
The students' job is to look for these words in their reading or listen for them in conversation. If they find one of our words, they should record the sentence or bring the book with them to Morning Meeting. Try using these words at home and see if your Plover notices!

Math Notes
Last week in Third Grade Math, we continued our study of fractions by investigating and designing quilt squares. Each third grader first completed a quilt square with specific fractions represented by 3-4 different colors. Then, they could create their own design and make an answer key that explained which fractions they chose to represent. We also reviewed geometry, arrays and symmetry in our discussions about quilts and spent some time preparing for student-led conferences.
Last week in Fourth Grade Math, we worked on preparing our reflections for Student-Led Conferences. Students also continued their work with comparing and combining fractions. We also continued our review in preparation for the upcoming OAKS test (in early May).
Weekly Review
We had a short week last week and we used most of our time together to prepare for student-led conferences. Hopefully at conferences, you were able to see a sample of your Plover's best work and their reflections on strengths and challenges from the year. This morning at Morning Meeting, I asked the students what they liked about making portfolios and having student-led conferences. Here are a few of their thoughts:
"I liked the way we did it because it was fun. I liked showing them all the stuff."
"I think the teacher could explain a lot of what we did, but only the student can explain how they feel or if they need help with something."
"I think it was really, really fun and awesome because I really liked sharing what we’ve been doing in class. And I really like answering questions, so I liked talking to my parents about what we did."
"I really liked getting to explain what we we’re doing. Our parents were hearing from our point-of-view and we actually got to talk to them. It makes it seems like we have more influence in our learning."
"It was pretty easy for me and it didn’t it take that much time. I liked showing off all my work."
"Doing the reflections helped me with explaining how I feel about my work. Then, when my parents came, it was easier for me."
Communication
