We are in need of 2 Out & About chaperones for a quick trip to Jackson Bottom Wetlands next Wednesday, April 22nd from 11:30 - 2:00. We are also in need of library chaperones for Monday, April 27th.
Math Notes
Last week in Third Grade math, we continued our study of fractions by looking at and designing quilt squares. In this unit, students will investigate the meaning of fractions and the ways fractions can be represented. At home, you can talk to your student about ways people use fractions every day. For example:
1. If you want to share 10 cookies among four people, how can you share them equally?
2. The gas tank in our car holds 12 gallons, but right now it is only one fourth full. How many gallons of gas do we need to buy to fill up the tank?
This week fourth grade mathematicians will finish up their study of multiplication. Students will work on solving multiplication problems with 2-digit numbers, reasoning about numbers and their factors, and represent the meaning of multiplication and division. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers spent some time reflecting on our major work this year and choosing pieces of work to include in their portfolios. Your Plover will share their portfolio with you at Student-Led Conferences this Thursday. If you haven't already, please contact the FGCS office (503-359-4600) to schedule a conference. These conferences will last about 20-30 minutes and provide an opportunity for your student to highlight their growth this year, as well as their strengths and challenges. There will be multiple families in the classroom simultaneously; I will be available for questions and concerns, but I will not be meeting individually with each family. The Plovers will be working hard this week to rehearse and prepare for leading their conferences with their families, so we hope to see you there!
Communication
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Parents and students can e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also leave a voice message on the class phone, come into the classroom before or after school, or call me before 8PM at home
