Fund Run Friday, May 12th at Tom McCall - Chaperones Needed
The Fund Run will raise money for Unified Sports, a local program that provides sports opportunities for students of all abilities. Flyers and donation sheets were sent home last week, or you can click here to download the pledge/donation sheet. This year's Fund Run is being organized by 8th grade students through a ConnectED class taught by our AmeriCorps member Jonathan Kelly. Please contact Jonathan at [email protected] with any questions.
Upcoming Out and Abouts
This week, students will work with their animal research groups to create a game or obstacle course based on their animal's life cycle. We will also have time for more research and students will begin doing the work of their visitor center employee (building models, designing exhibits or creating videos).

Weekly Review
Last week, Plovers worked on the Smarter Balanced ELA (reading/writing) Performance Task. This activity asks students to read 2-3 short articles and respond to a narrative, opinion or informational prompt using evidence from the texts. This portion of the test is expected to take 1-2 weeks. Please help support your Plover by: encouraging them to do their best, making sure they eat breakfast and bring a snack, and helping them get plenty of sleep. Testing is administered in the computer lab in short sessions, and students have the opportunity to work on the same test over multiple sessions so they can work at their own pace.
For our Out & About last week, Level 2 traveled to Cannon Beach for a short but exciting trip! First, students worked in the animal research groups to complete the Beach Olympics, which included a whale sonar challenge, beach clean up and sand sculpture competition. Then, we met with educators from the Haystack Rock Awareness Program to learn about tide pools and birds. Check out the photos below for more highlights from our beach day!
