Reminders About Dismissal
If you want to make a change to your students' afternoon dismissal plans - either permanently or for a single day - please make sure you communicate those changes through the office before 2pm. Doing this is critical for student safely and to help dismissal go smoothly for students and staff.
We often hear about changes from the students themselves and, although they are usually right about the correct plans, we need to hear directly from parents about changes in dismissal plans, especially with younger students. Please do not send notes to school with your students or ask them to tell their teachers as these often do not get to the intended recipient!

Weekly Review
We had a great visit to the Forest Grove Library last week! The Plovers met Nathan - the children's librarian, learned about the organization of the library and checked out books. If you would like to get a library card for your family or Plover, please visit the library (you must register in person). I will check out books for students who do not have a library card, but these books must stay in the classroom. We will visit the library approximately every three weeks and I will post visits dates in the "upcoming events" schedule at the top of the newsletter. The library requires us to have 2-3 additional chaperones to supervise students. In my experience, the students have been very well behaved and independent in the library, so the chaperone's job is minimal! Mostly, you would be helping students locate and check out books using the self scanner, or accompanying pairs of students to the restrooms and water fountain. Library visits typically happen on Mondays from 1:45 - 3:00, and I hope you can join us this year!
We started a new project last week about Native Americans who lived on the Oregon and Washington coast. We started by making a mural for the background to our village, and later we will add houses and totem poles. Students will create characters and family groups to role play different events in their community. We also started reading a book together called If You Lived With The Indians Of The Northwest Coast. Here are some of the questions that the Plovers are already wondering about:
- What language did they speak?
- How many people lived in a village?
- How much did Native Americans travel?
- What was the first tribe?
- How did they make bows and arrows?
