This Wednesday, we will meet with the Parks Department to learn how they help take care of our community resources, and then we will help with a service project in Rogers Park. Next Wednesday, we will be gone all day on a trip to Metro Central Transfer Station and the Hazardous Waste Facility in Portland. For this Out & About, it is important that students dress appropriately for the weather because we will be outside most of the day. Everyone MUST wear closed toed shoes or boots for the tour of the hazardous waste facility! Students who ordered a school lunch will get a sack lunch that contains a sandwich, fresh fruit, fresh vegetable and milk.

Weekly Review
Last week, students created their imaginary Main Street businesses and used watercolors to make a mural in the classroom. We also visited the police station to learn more about the different kinds of jobs within our community. The Plovers got a tour of the department and also got to hear more about the types of skills required of detectives, patrol officers, evidence specialists and office managers. Check out the photos below! This week, they will create workers for their imaginary businesses and write about the skills their workers need to do their jobs.
We had a great visit to the Forest Grove Library last week! Students met Nathan - the new children's librarian, learned about the organization of the library and checked out books. If you would like to get a library card for your family or Plover, please visit the library (you must register in person). I will check out books for students who do not have a library card, but these books must stay in the classroom. We will visit the library approximately every three weeks and I will post visits dates in the "upcoming events" schedule at the top of the newsletter. The library requires us to have 2-3 additional chaperones to supervise students. In my experience, the students have been very well behaved and independent in the library, so the chaperone's job is minimal! Mostly, you would be helping students locate and check out books using the self scanner, or accompanying pairs of students to the restrooms and water fountain. Library visits typically happen on Mondays from 1:45 - 3:00, and I hope you can join us this year!
