Classroom Support
In our classroom, we are lucky to have many volunteers and staff working with students! These volunteers and staff help support a variety of classroom activities and may provide individual or small-group support to students during reading, writing and math. They also help lead activities during project work, academic choice and Out & About. Our regular classroom helpers will be: Erin (Out & About Teacher), Jonathan (AmeriCorps Member), Carl, Juliana, and Lulu. We also have an instructional assistant helping in the classroom; last week it was Lonny and this week it will be Debbie!
Weekly Review
Last week, students rehearsed and performed their first readers theater plays! These funny fairy tale stories helped students practice reading with expression and using a loud, clear voice. Plovers also began writing their first fairy tale adaptation, based either on the story of Cinderella or Three Billy Goats Gruff. During this writing unit, we are considering the ways authors adapt stories and why they might choose to make certain changes. For example, in Interstellar Cinderella, Cinderella decides against marrying the prince and instead asks for a job as his royal mechanic! The Plovers agreed that this made the story more unique and shared an important message about being independent and standing up for yourself!
