Upcoming Out and Abouts
This Wednesday, we will take a historic walking tour of downtown Forest Grove. The weather forecast is predicting a very rainy day, so please help your Plover choose clothes that will keep them warm and dry during our walk. Chaperones are welcome, but not required.
On March 30th, Level 2 students will walk to the AT Smith House and recreate a day in the life of their Oregon Trail character. Wagon families will imagine they have completed their journey and are ready to begin their lives in a new community. Plovers are encouraged to dress up and we will be working on simple clothing items, like aprons, in class. Some other easy costume ideas that you may be able to find around your house or borrow: long skirts, button-up shirts, suspenders, straw hats, and bandanas.
Volunteer Opportunities
Out & About Chaperone - Join us Wednesday for a walking tour of historic Forest Grove or 3/30 for Pioneer Day at the historic AT Smith House!
Library Chaperones - 2 chaperones needed for our next library trip (3/14).
Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers shared some of their persuasive writing at the All School Meeting. First, each student said a little bit about a problem in the classroom that they wanted to change, such as broken pencils, cluttered lunch boxes and messy bathrooms. Then, we shared a movie featuring a few speeches written by Plovers about people who make a difference in our school community. Finally, we talked about our upcoming persuasive writing project: completing a grant application to create emergency disaster kits for each classroom!
New classroom jobs have been assigned and students had their first experience with paying rent last week. Some students were able to pay three times their rent and purchase their chair! The classroom store has also been open for students to purchase special items like beanie baby sleepovers, rocking chair privileges and teacher for an hour. Students can also earn bonuses by displaying responsibility, organization and a positive attitude. We are still determining the complete list of criteria for bonuses, but so far the Plover have decided that turning in homework early and outstanding participation in book clubs will earn extra pay. On the other hand, not taking care of personal belongings or being unprepared for book club meetings will result in a fine. Fines can be paid with Dino Dollars or by performing extra stewardship jobs and acts of kindness around the classroom.
Communication
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Parents and students can e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also leave a voice message on the class phone or come into the classroom before/after school.
