Upcoming Out and Abouts
On Wednesday, the Plovers will get a first taste of the Oregon Trail unit by participating in different pioneer gardening activities. For pioneers, the garden was where you found 80% of your food, and it also provided medicine, fragrances, dyes, and herbs for the home. Because the garden was a key to living and being healthy, it was a priority for families to have one immediately upon settling, and make sure it was productive and thriving. To demonstrate how pioneers maintained and took advantage of their garden spaces, we will cut up fruits and veggies to dehydrate and store, turn compost into the garden beds, weed, and plant some early spring crops in the Backyard Garden.

Read Across America Day
Grab your hat and read with the cat! The Plovers will celebrate the National Education Association's annual Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 6. This is after the official day (March 2nd) because we will be presenting at All School Meeting on Friday. The Plovers will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading in their pajamas! We will also have special guest readers, read alouds, opportunities to read with a buddy and read-to-self time. Students are allowed to bring a stuffed animal to read with, but they should not bring blankets or sleeping bags. Please sign up on VolunteerSpot if you would like to be a mystery reader; I have extra Dr. Seuss books available for guest readers!

Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers voted on what kind of presentation they wanted to do for All School Meeting. Many students wanted to do an Alice in Wonderland performance since we were going to see the ballet! So we read a picture book version of the story together and studied clips of the movie and several ballets. Then, students worked in small groups to choreograph a dance to a certain section of the story. Check out the slideshow below to see how they used important moments from the story to create their dance!
