Math Homework Check In
Math homework is a chance for students to practice what they have learned in class and for families to see what students are learning in grade level math. It is also the best opportunity for your child to receive one-on-one math support. Please help your student set up a homework routine so they are getting regular math practice every week. We have been talking about the importance of homework in class and setting goals for more students to complete their DreamBox assignments every week.
- Every week, the math homework is to complete at least 30 minutes of math practice.
- You can set up Parent Access on DreamBox to track your students' progress; more information about how to do this is located on the "Homework" page.
- Khan Academy is another option for online math practice. If you would like, you can easily add me as a coach:
- Log in (or sign up) at khanacademy.org
- Visit khanacademy.org/coaches (the “Coaches” tab in your profile).
- In the “Add a coach” field, enter our class code: XJDZM8
- If your family would prefer to practice math skills in a different way (practice books, worksheets, flash cards, math games or other online resources), please send in your student's work OR send me an email before Friday morning letting me know how they completed their 30 minutes of weekly math practice.
- Go to the "Homework" page for more ideas about other ways to practice math at home and a list of math games that can be played without a computer.
- 4th grade parents can visit Ginny's website and newsletter for worksheets related to their current study of fractions.
- Homework #1: Introduction to Fractions
- Homework #2: Unit Fractions/ Finding Fractions on a Number line
- Homework #3: Comparing Fractions
- Homework #4: Adding & Subtracting Fractions

Weekly Review
Last week was a quick week because of snow days and All School Meeting! The Plovers completed a reflection activity about their class business project and helped count the money collected during Celebrations of Learning. Many Plovers also met with their new book club and selected their first book! Each group will be diving into animal-related fiction/fantasy to connect to our upcoming science unit! The books the students picked are: Sasquatch Escape: Imaginary Veterinary, Ranger in Time: Rescue on the Oregon Trail, Flora & Ulysses, and Diamond Willow. Students will have time in class to read and write about their book, but some students may choose to read at home and complete their book club assignment as extra homework. I do not want this to be a burden for families, so if your Plover seems worried about completing their assigned reading or writing, please let me know so I can help their book club figure out a more reasonable pace.
Communication
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Parents and students can e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also leave a voice message on the class phone or set up a time to meet with me before/after school.
