Weekly Review
Last week, Plovers worked in the computer lab to publish a piece of writing. This was a great test of all the typing skills that students have (hopefully) been practicing with their weekly homework! Your Plover can show you their writing on Google Classroom and the editing checklist they used to proofread their stories. As they typed, we really focused on using paragraphs, commas and quotation marks. Students will meet with me one more time to edit their stories before putting them into their portfolios!
We had a sneak peak of our new Oregon Trail unit last week with a trip to the Backyard Garden! We also began reading a Choose Your Own Adventure Book about the Oregon Trail. Over the next 6 weeks, students will create characters, form family groups and join a wagon train to learn about the journey across the U.S. in the 1840s. The wagon train will confront difficulties such as illness, food shortages, and broken wagons. On April 11th, students will dress up as their character and walk to the AT Smith house for a pioneer field day! Some easy costume ideas that you may be able to find around your house or borrow: long skirts, button-up shirts, suspenders, aprons, straw hats, and bandanas. We hope that some parents will be able to join us for a day of old fashion fun!
