This week, we will go see the Oregon Symphony's Young People's Concert on Thursday, February 1st. Students are welcome to dress up for our trip to the theater, if they want! We will be walking and eating lunch in downtown Portland, so comfortable shoes are recommended with all dresses and fancy pants :) Students who ordered a school lunch for this day will receive a sack lunch. Next week, Storyteller Alton Chung will visit our classroom for a storytelling workshop!

Friendship Celebration (Valentines Day)
The Plovers will show appreciation for our classroom community and friendships with a Friendship Celebration at the end of the day on February 14th. If your Plover would like to bring in cards for their classmates, they MUST bring one for every student. Students can make cards or buy them. Please be modest with candy contributions; Plovers will not be allowed to eat treats at school.
Order the 2017-18 FGCS Yearbook!
Don't miss your chance to order the 2017-18 FGCS Yearbook! Click here to order and pay for yearbooks online with credit/debit. If you prefer to pay with cash or check, you may download a paper form here or pick one up in the school office. Deadline for orders is 4 p.m. Thurs., March 22.
Geography Bee
This week, we will complete the preliminary rounds of the National Geographic Bee to determine the Plover class representative. There are 7 rounds of competition and each student individually answers a question in every round. The questions are about US and World geography. In some rounds, students receive multiple answers to choose from and in other rounds, the questions are open-ended. For more information, please visit: http://www.nationalgeographic.org/bee. Only 4th-8th graders are allowed to participate in the National Bee, so 3rd grade Plovers just play along for practice! I expect we will finish the class competition by January 30th to determine our class representation for the school-wide Geo Bee on February 2nd!
Volunteer Opportunities
1. Library Chaperones - Chaperones needed for our next library visit 2/12
Additional snack donations - I like to keep some extra snacks in the classroom for students who forget their lunch or snack, and my stash is getting low! Breakfast bars, fruit leathers or fruit snacks, crackers, goldfish or pretzels are all great options. These donations can be brought in any time.
Communication
Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Parents and students can e-mail me at [email protected]. You can also leave a voice message on the class phone or set up a time to meet with me before/after school.
