The Plovers have been studying waste and recycling this year, and now we are ready to turn your trash into treasure! We are collecting donations to make a mini golf course. Specifically, we need cardboard tubes, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, cereal/cracker boxes, large yogurt tubs (not single servings), milk/juice cartons, CDs and mesh produce bags. CLEAN MATERIALS ONLY. Bring in your recycling any time through February 6, 2019. Drop off your items in one of the collection bags outside the Plover classroom! Thanks for your help!

Weekly Review
For project work last week, the Plovers created a business plan to think through all the components of making their mini golf course. We focused on turning our ideas and hopes into a sustainable business. The Plovers considered and discussed:
- Values: What we want to do and WHY do we care about it?
- Partners: WHO will we connect with to help us bring this business to life?
- Customers: WHO are they? What might they want and/or need?
- Activities: WHAT actions/steps do we need to do before we open for business?
- Resources: WHAT materials will we need?
- Cost: WHATwill we need to spend money on?
- Revenue: HOW will we use the money we receive from customers?
We also had visit from SCRAP’s Education Program. SCRAP is a nonprofit organization located in Portland. Their mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. Students discussed the difference between recycling and reusing and got to see many examples of reuse art and products that artisans make and sell. Next, students participated in a journal-making workshop where they made a journal cover by creating a collage from donated calendars and magazines. Then, they made a binding for their journal with just a used pen and a rubber band.
