Friendship Celebration (Valentines Day)
The Plovers will show appreciation for our classroom community and friendships with a Friendship Celebration on February 14th. If your Plover would like to bring in cards for their classmates, they MUST bring one for every student. Students can make cards or buy them. I am sending home a list of students' names today. Please be modest with candy contributions; Plovers will not be allowed to eat treats at school.
Great Kindness Challenge
This week, we will participate in The Great Kindness Challenge, which is a week dedicated to creating a culture of kindness on school campuses nationwide. Throughout the week, the Plovers will have time to plan and perform kind deeds for the school community, and they will also focus on classroom community and problem solving skills. You can also encourage your child to practice extra kindness at home and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!
Weekly Review
Last week, Storyteller Alton Chung visited our classroom for a storytelling workshop! He told many folk tales from around the world and led fun exercises that challenged the students to jump into the story! Before leaving, he gave the Puffins some tips on narration for their stop motion movies. The students got to see a great example of how to tell a story with expression and emotion.
The Plovers had several long project blocks last week to get started on their stop motion animations! The first day required a lot of perseverance while students learned how to set up the iPads and compose their shots correctly. We focused on:
- Making sure the background fills the entire screen
- No distracting materials or mistakes in the shot
- Characters make very small movements between each picture
