Upcoming Out and Abouts
This Wednesday, we will visit the ELC at Pacific University to preform our puppet show for two classes. Next Wednesday, we will go to the Backyard Garden for a sneak peak of our spring unit - animal biology and ecosystems!
Volunteer Opportunities
Breakfast Donations - Fruit needed 2/24
Library Chaperones - 2-3 chaperones needed for our next library trip (3/13)
Mystery Readers - Read to the class for Dr. Seuss's birthday (we will celebrate on 3/6)
Read Across America Day
Grab your hat and read with the cat! The Plovers will celebrate the National Education Association's twentieth annual Read Across America Day on Monday, March 6. This is after the official day (March 2nd) because we already have puppet show performances planned for March 2nd and 3rd. The Plovers will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading in their pajamas! We will also have special guest readers, read alouds, opportunities to read with a buddy and read-to-self time. Students are allowed to bring a stuffed animal to read with, but they should not bring in blankets or sleeping bags. Please sign up on VolunteerSpot if you would like to be a mystery reader; I have extra Dr. Seuss books available for guest readers!
Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers focused on getting their puppets ready to share at Celebrations of Learning. Some students also had writing to share and even took a shift working at our Trash to Treasure Theater Box Office! Thank you to the families who were able to stop in and support the class business! If you would like to buy a ticket for either family performance (Thursday, 3/2 at 2:30 or Friday 3/3 at 9:15), you can send in a cash payment with your Plover any time or pay at the door. The students decided on a sliding scale ticket price - the suggested donation is $5, but everyone is invited to pay less or more. Please include the number of tickets you need, along with a note about which day you're most likely to attend so we can make sure to have enough seating available.
Naturally, our customers are very interested in how the money from ticket sales will be spent. Please watch the short clip below, featuring the voices of Gemma and Lowell, for more information! You can also see photos from Celebrations of Learning below!
