Plover Book Drive at Celebrations of Learning
We hope you will join us for Celebrations of Learning on Wednesday, February 19th from 5 - 6:30. The Plovers will share their work and writing about the Free Bookstore they hope to create at FGCS! We will also hold a book drive for Plover families only. This is a practice book drive, so students can learn what to expect before we invite donations from the school and outside community! During Celebrations of Learning, we will accept donations of gently used children's books in the classroom. Books can be for any level reader - from 1st to 8th grade - and should be in good condition, without torn pages or writing in them. Please let me know if you have questions!
Upcoming Out and Abouts
This week, we will continue our work with Theatre In The Grove. Next week, we will see the Oregon Symphony's Young People's Concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

I have 2 additional chaperone tickets available for the Oregon Symphony's Young People's Concert on Thursday, February 27. We cannot accommodate siblings on this trip. Sign up on VolunteerSpot if you would like to join us! Chaperones may ride the bus or drive separately.
We are also in need of library chaperones for Monday, February 24th and breakfast donations. See the VolunteerSpot page for more details. Thank you for your support!
Math Notes
Last week, the 3rd graders continued an investigation involving postage stamps. In this project, students were given sets of stamps and asked to calculate the total price of each set. This context supports the development of multiplication by encouraging students to think about the value of a stamp as a unit that can be counted (for example, 1 stamp equals 7 cents). The total price could be determined by repeated addition, or by using more efficient strategies like doubling (I know 2 stamps cost 14 cents, so 4 stamps would cost 14 + 14). Some of the 3rd graders' recent work with multiplication story problems will be on display in the hallway during Celebrations of Learning!
Last week in fourth grade math we began our Unit 2 Post Assessment. This Assessment focused on problem solving, algebra, and multi-digit multiplication. This week we will finish our assessments and began our study of fractions and decimals.
Weekly Review
Last week, we enjoyed visiting Theatre in the Grove and beginning work on our plays. We also prepared displays and posters for Celebrations of Learning! We look forward to sharing our work with you on Wednesday, February 19th from 5:00 to 6:30. The focus in the Plover Classroom will be on the Free Bookstore, but you'll also be able to see our Love Monsters, 3rd Grade Math projects and the beginnings of our Pourquoi writing unit! See you then!
