Weekly Review
We are studying the history of the people of the Pacific Northwest coast, and we had a local Shoshone-Bannock storyteller visit last week. Ed told many different legends to the class and explained how he learned the stories from his father and grandfather. He also brought photos and artifacts from his childhood at Celilo Falls. The students are working on creating their Native American characters, getting to know their clan (family), and deciding on their role in the community. This week, they will write short biographies about their characters and each family will perform a legend about their clan's animal. Throughout this unit, students will be journaling from the perspective of their character, incorporating facts and evidence from books and newspapers into their writing.
