Friendship Celebration (Valentines Day)
We will show appreciation for our classroom community and friendships with a Friendship Celebration and class snack on February 14th. There are additional sign-ups on the Community Breakfast page for veggies, fruit and crackers. If your Plover would like to bring in cards for their classmates, they MUST bring one for every student. Students can make cards or buy them. Please be modest with candy contributions; Plovers will not be allowed to eat treats at school.

Great Kindness Challenge
Next week, we will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, which is a week dedicated to creating a culture of kindness on school campuses nationwide. Throughout the next two weeks, the Plovers will have time to plan and perform kind deeds for the school community. You can also encourage your child to practice extra kindness at home and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!
Volunteer Opportunities
Breakfast Donations - Cereal/bagels and fruit needed Friday, February 10th. You can also use this sign up for Friendship Day snacks!
Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers began reading and writing informational books, also called All About Books. We read National Geographic Kid's Martin Luther King, Jr by Kitson Jazynka, Disgusting Critters: The Fly by Elise Gravel and part of The Mighty Mars Rovers by Elizabeth Rusch. Students also chose one informational magazine article to read independently. After we complete the class business and puppet show performance, we will start a new thematic unit about animals, ecosystems and oceans. Plovers will work in small groups to research various animals and write informational books. We will build on their comparing and contrasting skills by focusing on animals from two different Oregon habitats: wetlands and ocean!
