Upcoming Out and Abouts
We are transitioning from our Waste & Recycling Unit into a study of Oregon's Natural Resources. This week, we will visit the World Forestry Center to learn about resource management. We will also see a presentation about water and rivers on Thursday.
Math Notes
This week in Third Grade Math, we will continue our work with multiplication and division. So far, students are really enjoying this unit and have learned the concepts quickly! They will present posters about multiplication at the All School Meeting on Friday. I am including a multiplication game called Loops & Groups with this week's homework. We have played this game in class and your child can show you how to play. This DOES NOT have to be returned to school.
For Homework, Third Graders will complete the Home Connection 13 Worksheet.
This week in Fourth Grade Math, we will continue our unit focusing on fractions and division. Using egg cartons as a model, your fourth grader will work this week on understanding, modeling, reading, writing, ordering, and comparing common fractions using concrete models (egg cartons) and visual representations (drawing egg cartons).

Questions/Comments/Concerns, please contact Becky at [email protected]
Last week was a very short week! We prepared for our trip to the World Forestry Center by discussing what we already know about trees and forests. Students rotated around the room and wrote down their ideas about five big questions: What do we make from trees? What lives in the forest? How do trees change? What trees grow in Oregon? How are trees different from each other? I read aloud from the book Tell Me, Tree by Gail Gibbons to give students more information about the parts of a tree. During our Out and About this week, students will pretend they are in charge of managing an 80-acre forest and they will have to determine a management plan for the land. I am excited to see their ideas!
We also completed two Random Acts of Kindness projects last week. Some students noticed that the parking lot was messy from spilled trash and recycling, so we went out to clean it up! We also made notes and "love monsters" for the Level One classes. We snuck upstairs and left the letters in their classrooms while they were at recess. The Barn Swallows came downstairs to see if we would claim responsibility for the love notes, but the Plovers wanted to keep it a secret! We are hoping to deliver some more surprises this week and then work with the Level One classes as reading or writing mentors. The Plovers are excited to act as big buddies and they enjoyed seeing their old friends and teachers.
