Upcoming Out and Abouts
This week, Plovers will work with Stephanie and Amy to learn about stop motion animation and create moveable characters from play doh. They will work in groups to make a short animation of a fairy tale adaptation. Next month, they will animate one of their own stories! Next week, an educator from Oregon Ballet Theatre will visit to help us prepare for a field trip to the ballet on March 1st!
Volunteer Opportunities
1. Breakfast Donations - Fruit and cereal needed this Friday 1/12 and next Friday 1/19
2. Laundry and Dish Duty - Needed this week and next week
3. Library Chaperones - Chaperones needed for our next library visit 1/22
4. Out & About Chaperones - Chaperones needed 2/1 (Oregon Symphony performance) and 3/1 (Oregon Ballet performance). Please only sign up for one of these theater trips. Due to the popularity of these school shows, we are limited to 2 chaperones per class and I want to give different parents an opportunity to join their students on Out & Abouts!
Weekly Review
Last week, the Plovers started the new year by setting word goals! A word goal is a word students choose for themselves that will help them focus on an area of their lives in which they want to improve or grow. For example, some Plovers picked words like "organization," "leadership," and "focus." This week, students will come up with three action steps that will help them achieve their word goal. We will also pick a word goal for the whole class to work on.
The Plovers also checked in on their progress with their genre challenge goals that they set during fall conferences. This is a goal they set for reading at school. The students colored in their bar graphs to see how many books they have finished so far this year and which genres they've tried. They also completed a reflection sheet and found out how many more books they will need to read to meet their goal. At home, this would be a good time for families to check in on the Tower of Books Challenge! Together, figure out how many more books you need to read to finish the Tower of Books Challenge and make a plan for completing that goal by the end of the year!
