Upcoming Out and Abouts - Chaperones needed!
We will help with a service project at Ash Street Field, next to the B Street Trail, this week. Students will help plant 10 flats (over 300 individual plants) of native species along the edge of the field. 2-3 parents chaperones would be appreciated! Please make sure your Plover wears clothes that can get dirty and sturdy shoes.
Math Notes
This week in Third Grade math, we will focus on preparing for student-led conferences and the OAKS math test. Students will review geometry, multiplication and computation with larger numbers, and reflect on several projects we have completed this semester. See you Thursday at conferences!
There is no math homework this week.
Fourth Grade math students will continue this week focusing on connecting fractions to decimals; as well as review fourth grade math concepts in preparation for the state test. We will also spend some time preparing for Student Led Conferences.
Over the course of Unit 6, your Fourth Grade Puffin or Plover will:
- Identify fractions and decimals that are equal to each other
- Compare decimals numbers and fractions
- Add and subtract decimal numbers using a variety of strategies
Due to the short week, there will be NO math homework.

Weekly Review
We continued our study of poetry last week and each student created their own Poetry Notebook to collect interesting poems. They can also write their own poems in their notebooks. We started a mixed-media project inspired by the book "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald. Each Plover chose a favorite part of themselves to photograph and write about. Their completed projects will be on display in the hallway for student-led conferences!
During our Out and About last week, we visited Tom McCall Forest and the students spent some quiet time among the trees working in their Nature Journals. Some students chose to write poetry or draw sketches, while others made maps or bark rubbings. This was the second week that they students worked on their Nature Journals and I have been so impressed with their observations and documentation! We also had some time to explore the forest, look for animal habitats and play. Students will have the opportunity to share their journals and watercolor paintings at conferences this week.
